What do you love about your job…
What I love about my job is my clients, and helping them through the complexities of their lives and the financial decisions or choices they make. We all have different values around money and these are generally hard wired and formed by our experiences and upbringing. Part of our role is to recognise these behaviours and then help our clients make the best decisions around their money.
From Investment Banking to Coffs Harbour:
Wanting the ultimate sea-change and a place to raise a family, Brett and Rebecca relocated back to Sawtell/Coffs Harbour where Brett took over the management of the then Bridges Financial Services Practice before becoming the Principal in 2016 and rebranding to Harbour Wealth Management in 2021.
In his time off, Brett enjoys spending time with his wife, Rebecca and his three young sons. You will also find him at the gym, surfing, fishing and coaching his three boys in their local AFL teams. He is an avid supporter of the Collingwood AFL team (sorry), West Tigers NRL team (even more sorry), and loves nothing better than a five day test match or watching the Australian Open tennis.
The serious stuff:
Brett is the Principal and Senior Financial Adviser at Harbour Wealth Management. He has comprehensive experience in the financial services industry for 25 years, the last 15 in financial planning. Whilst analysis, research and strategy are at the heart of Brett’s technical skills, it is having a deep understanding of his client’s goals and objectives which he is passionate about. Drawing on his background in banking, stockbroking and investment markets, Brett can give you clarity on your financial options and encompasses a truly holistic approach. While Brett's financial know-how guides his advice, as a husband and father of three, he also deeply understands family dynamics and finances.
Brett’s father was a career Bank Manager and so from a young age, Brett has always been intrigued in financial matters. Brett commenced his career in financial services by following his father’s footsteps into Retail Banking. From there Brett commenced a Bachelor of Business at Southern Cross University and to further his knowledge he undertook a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance with FINSIA. After 10 years of working in Sydney in both a major Australian Stock Broking firm and then onto an International Investment Banking Firm in roles including stockbroking, superannuation and Investment Banking, Brett decided to commence his Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning commencing his employment in a boutique firm in Sydney’s CBD, first as a Paraplanner and then as a Financial Adviser. Placing a high importance on education, Brett went on to become a Certified Financial Planner™. Brett is a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia.
Brett provides advice to a diverse range of clients which requires him to be technically competent across all financial planning strategies. As well as his extensive knowledge of pre-retirement and retirement strategies and how to maximise Centrelink entitlements and minimise personal taxes, he also has a special interest and vast experience in estate planning.
It is fair to say that Brett is passionate about financial markets and the driver of those returns. Through constant reading and staying abreast of what is happening both locally and across global markets, it allows Brett to use that knowledge when constructing client portfolios and having a deeper knowledge about what is driving those investment returns.
